From Sight to Insight: Vale Vipers Upped Their Game with SportsVisio
At a glance
- The challenge: Manual video clipping, clipboard stat-tracking, and hours of raw-footage review meant players waited days for feedback. Video and data lived in separate files.
- The solution: SportsVisio. Upload the game, and AI returns the box score, shot charts, and individual highlight reels in one place.
- The outcome: Immediate feedback, player-led film review, a single source of truth for video and stats, and a multi-season foundation for tracking how the team develops.
In basketball, feedback delayed can be feedback wasted. That was the reality for the staff and players at Vale Vipers, until SportsVisio changed how they work.
Nic Bakrachev, a coach with the Vale Vipers, had one tool before SportsVisio: a camera. And while the camera did its job during the game, everything after the final buzzer fell on him.
"I had to cut the video and share the clips with players myself," says Bakrachev. "It was time consuming and difficult."
Meanwhile, Director of Basketball Andrew Leftley, who founded and oversees performance and analytics for the Vale Vipers program, was wrestling with the same problem at a structural level. Clipboards, volunteer stat-trackers, and hours of manual review of raw footage meant players often waited days before seeing any feedback.
"In a fast-paced season, feedback must be immediate to be effective," notes Leftley.
Seeing the need for a more sophisticated, tech-forward approach, it was Leftley who brought the platform to the program.
Automating the manual grind
The shift from the old workflow to SportsVisio was immediate and tangible.
For Bakrachev, the change showed up in his daily coaching routine. He now uses the SportsVisio app's highlight tools to quickly identify what led to scores and what caused turnovers. He also scouts upcoming opponents by reviewing how their players attacked the basket. And the flow of the game diagram became a particular revelation.
"I found it extremely useful for pinpointing specific timings of the game," Bakrachev says. "Getting this context used to require rewinding footage repeatedly, and now I've got it almost immediately."
SportsVisio solved a deeper organizational problem for Leftley. By providing a single source of truth, with the platform's AI-driven automation, SportsVisio is addressing something manual tagging services never could.
"We needed video and data to live together, rather than having stats in one file and video in another," Leftley explains. "Most other platforms still require a human to sit and code the game, which is either expensive or time-consuming. SportsVisio's ability to read the game automatically via the cloud is a massive leap forward. You just upload and wait for the magic to happen."
A new culture of accountability
What's emerged at Vale Vipers isn't just a more efficient workflow. It's a shift in how players relate to their own development.
Since adopting SportsVisio, players log in on their own time to review personalized highlight reels and check their stats. Some share clips directly to social media. Others study their shot charts before practice.
"It has turned watching film from a chore into something they actually look forward to doing," Leftley explains.
That engagement translates directly into better coaching conversations. Film sessions that once took considerable preparation time are now quick to build and easy for players to follow. Shot charts show exactly which areas of the court each player needs to address.
According to Bakrachev, "Players can follow not only their successes but the areas they need to improve. We can target team and individual weaknesses, becoming better by addressing them. The AI insights are a good place to start."

Building toward what's next
Looking ahead, Vale Vipers leadership sees SportsVisio as a long-term asset for the program, not only a tool for game weeks.
Leftley envisions it building a statistical profile of the team across multiple seasons, tracking how their style of play evolves and where efficiency improves. The goal of increasing effective field goal percentage and reducing unforced turnovers now has a measurable foundation to build on.
"By having visual evidence linked to the stats, we can show players the difference between a good shot and a great shot," Leftley says. "For players looking to play at the next level, the ability to generate professional-grade highlight packages is a huge advantage for their recruitment goals."
The message to any coach still on the fence is straightforward. With no data science degree or army of volunteers with clipboards required, SportsVisio delivers a platform that meets coaches and players where they are. And it helps them get to where they want to be. The Vipers replaced guesswork with game intelligence, and they did it from a single upload.
As Leftley concludes, "This isn't just a luxury for pro teams anymore. It's an accessible tool that democratizes elite analytics. It saves you the one thing coaches never have enough of: time."
